McDonalds lost in Mexico

After protests of mexicans, the government of the city Oaxaca in mexico did not allow the company McDonalds to build a fast food restaurant under the historic stone archways of Oaxaca's 16th century central plaza, also known as the zocalo. Gurdian Unlimited reports. So this is a case, were one culture refuses the adoption of a foreign culture.

Makes me think. I don't like this kind of cultural racism. It would be something different if the people don't want any commercial building at their place. But does it really matter what kind of company builds a shop there? If theres something to discuss, then how the architecture of this restaurant has to look like.
This kind of protest is so artifical. I mean, if the people don't like hamburgers from McDonalds, the company wouldn't build a restaurant there. No, McDonalds is the symbolic enemy of the anti-globalization movement. We had the same here in Bavaria as McDonalds wanted to build a restaurant next to the autobahn direct in front of the alps.
Would it be something different if I start to protest against peruvian pan flute players in the bavarian captial, where rather a bavarian Blaskapelle would be appropriate? I don't think.

I visited Oaxaca and I know the zocalo, the "heart" of that village. Therefore I'm glad that no McDonalds will explore this place.

I agree with the demostrations, Oaxaca is one of the nicest old mexican cities, I?ve visited Oaxaca many times and the first thing I thought when I go there is to have a traditional mexican breakfast (milk with traditional chocolate, ?cecina? or tamales) not a simple hamburger in a fast food place. about how that place looks like, I was in Toledo Spain there is a Mcdonalds in the main square, it?s a horrible sight in a charming city, I?m glad they weren?t allowed in the Oaxaca?s ?zocalo? , but they of course are allowed out of the downtown.
