When Tribal Art Meets McDonalds Now, this is some really funny stuff two artists from England have produced: "In a darkened, hushed hall, pools of light illuminate painted wooden masks, stuck through with fetish nails, decorated with shells and goats' heads. They appear authentic until you notice the McDonald's logo everywhere. A burger as a primeval deity; a cult statue with the evil clown face of Ronald McDonald", reports The Guardian. And also The Telegraph. Charles Saatchi, the most influential collector of modern art in Britain, paid £1 million for the sculpures. Too bad the real tribal artist didn't have the idea! The objects of the gallery can be seen online hat the web page of the White Cube Gallery, London. ... Link (0 comments) ... Comment Dept. of something different, kerlone, November 15, 2002 at 9:11:10 AM CET 700 Year Old Mickey Mouse Discovered From the fascinating world of medieval cultures: In the austrian village Malta (Kärnten) this Mickey Mouse is clearly recognizeable on a church painting, reports ananova. The tourism office is already thinking about suing the Disney Company for trademark infringement. [This would give a great case to study for all diffusionist, wouldn't it?] Via Boingboing ... Comment Dept. of something different, kerlone, November 13, 2002 at 4:10:46 PM CET News Search Google This article is for all wishing to contribute to the Ethno::log and are wondering were we get the news from. The news search of Google is a relatively new service of Google, but with the same power as the well know web search of Google. Many of the news here a retrieved by this tool. In this section I put together some links pointing directly to a search for a bunch of words. All links are sorted in regions and then in different kinds of searches. The most easy way to find things of interest are searches with the names of the ethnic groups, which mostly are not used for other things. If you want a search query stored here also for your personal anthropological region, just leave a comment with the words you want to be linked to and I sort it in. General

Because this is the section for posting all things that don't belong to the main page of Ethno::log. And spiderman doesn't -- although he is on a poster which resides in zephyrin's office, but this is definitly not enough anthropological relation. It's the place for ethnologic poo, for jokes, for asking where the library of the institute is and for telling who is going out with whom. Things like that. If you post something in here, just select the topic "something different" and as status "online in topic". (BTW: It's matching our colors again ... ) ... Link (9 comments) ... Comment |
