Expanding the Concept of Culture to Primates

Leading Anthropologists are trying to expand the conecpt of culture also to primates, like the orang utan apes. After a nature-article now some scientists showed again, that also in ape population some cultural traditions can be found. For example, orang utans at Borneo use leaves to amplify their oral noises, the ones from Sumatra only their hands. The article is published in Science. Study on Kurdish Women in Germany

We have started a biographical narrative research on three/two generations of Kurdish immigrant women in Germany. Our informants are usually Kurdish women who immigrated from Turkey to Germany. In a broad sense, we are interested in analyzing how Kurdish immigrant women's identity has changed over generations in Germany. We have two major requests. Can you recommend us

1. similar research projects and publications about Kurdish immigrant women in Europe, if possible in Germany?
2. research funding agencies, specifically on our research area?

Money Ends Indigenous Protest

Money seems to be stronger than religious beliefs and sacred land: In the conflict between a chilean energy company and some pehuenche indians (we reported) money did solve at least one conflict. Nicolasa Quintreman, one of the most prominent Pehuenche opponents of the project, surprisingly signed over her land to the electric energy firm, which is majority owned by Spain's Endesa. She will get $250,000 for her "ancestors land". Planet Ark reports.

Brazilian Study: Social and Genetic Race Differs

Aspects of physical appearance are poor indications of a person's genetic ancestry, according to a new study by Brazilian researchers. (...) The most interesting finding, Pena noted, is that the researchers observed a significant dissociation between genomic geographical ancestry--African versus European--and social race, which was evaluated using multiple physical attributes that included skin pigmentation, color and texture of hair, eye color and shape of nose and lips.
