In the Wintersemester 04/05 there will be a presentation of documentary films every tuesday at 19.45 at the "Institut für Ethnologie und Afrikanistik München" (room no. 1.05). Today is the starting point for our "Filmreihe". The screenings will provide a good knowledge-base for everyone interested in anthropology in general and especially in visual anthropology. You will get an impression of the first steps in anthropological filmmaking with "Nanook of the North" by Robert Flaherty and "Bathing Babies" by Margaret Mead. You can reflect over the questions "How to represent reality in documetary films? What kind of reality is shown there?" by watching "Der letzte Dokumentarfilm". There are many interesting films to see... The screenings are organized by Andrea Engl and Julia Bayer, who offer a Blockseminar on audiovisual anthropology this semester.
