Arne Schöfert has a wonderful
collection of pictures from the german colonial era 1880-1920. Most of them are from books, romanticising the landscape and the life in the Kolonialreich. But there are also insulting comics about cannibals, like the Hottentotten Blaubuch.
"Das Gras ist hoch, der Weg ist schmal, Die Kiste macht dem Neger Qual. Es drückt der Elephantenzahn; Fährt hier den keine Eisenbahn?" (Aus dem "Kolonial Bilderbuch".) 
Very nice is also a special issue from the Simplicissimus, a famous german satire magazine from that time, with critical drawings against colonial politics and missionaries.
All pictures give a wide notion of the often researched conception, construction and imagination the europeans produced from the rest of the world. Via SWR ... Comment |
