Allianz-Gastprofessor für Islamstudien am Institut für Geschichte und Kultur des Nahen Orients begrüßen zu dürfen. Prof. Muhawi wird im WS 2004/05 folgende Veranstaltungen anbieten (es sind keine Arabischkenntnise erforderlich): Lectures Topics in Arabic Culture and Literature Di 15-17 Uhr (HS 101, Veterinärstr. 1) These lectures will take as their main theme intercultural communication.This semester, the lectures will focus on narrative forms of expression that migrate across cultures. The leading areas of intellectual concern will be: women's issues, humour, and the interface between the oral and the literate. Lectures: I. Introduction: Forms of Intercultural Communication II. The Arabic Language in Context III. Orality, Literacy, and Arabic Speech Genres IV. Humour: The Tales of Juha (Hodja, Mulla Nasruddin), Arab/Islamic Trickster V. The Arabian Nights as Intercultural Document VI. Language and the Arabian Nights VII. The Arabian Nights: Narrative as Life VIII. Choosing Your Own Mate IX. Sexuality and Gender in the Arabian Nights X. Arabesque: The Islamic Art of the Arabian Nights XI. Ma'rouf, the Shoemaker: Oral Narration and Arabian Nights Compared. XII. Translating Arabic Literature: Zakaria Tamer Seminar (Hauptseminar): Issues in Arabic Literature and Culture Do 15-17 Uhr (HS 101, Veterinärstr. 1, I. Stock) The seminar will explore the topics put forward for the course in Arabic Culture and Literature in greater depth. The reading list will be more extensive, and additional areas of discussion will be included. More emphasis will be placed on the study of language and literary translation as forms of intercultural communication, with readings of Arabic literature in translation where available.
