The School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester offers two Project Studentships in Social Anthropology (tbc) for Postgraduate students. The Project Studentship:

Each studentship is comprised of the tuition fees, the stipend and the travel and fieldwork expenses required to support work of the student on the DME research project, and to support the completion of the programme of doctoral study in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester. Funding is available for three full years of postgraduate research. There is a possible extension to each studentship for four years, if the position is held on a part-time basis in combination with part-time work as a research assistant on this project. Both studentships are administered under the guidelines of the ESRC doctoral research training programme.

Rationale for Appointment:

This research project will raise new anthropological questions about value, by examining the DME in a comparative study in the Pacific Region. It will use extended case studies by two project students in tandem with the research of the three Investigators to establish its results. The project coordinators believe this project is well suited to a number of original projects for two doctoral candidates to pursue as independent studies within the larger project, and thereby meet their aim of completing a PhD, which is a unique piece of work.
