The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology (Central Europe University in Budapest) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow with research expertise in transnational migration and urban spaces.

Starting date: August 2010

Application deadline: Review of applications begins May 8 2010 and will continue until position is filled

Central European University (CEU) is a graduate research-intensive university specializing primarily in the social sciences. It is located in Budapest, and accredited in the United States and Hungary. CEU’s mission is to promote academic excellence, state-of-the-art research, and civic engagement, in order to contribute to the development of open societies in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and other emerging democracies throughout the world. CEU offers both Master’s and doctoral programs, and enrolls more than 1500 students from nearly 100 countries. The teaching staff consists of more than 140 resident faculty, from over 40 countries, and a large number of prominent visiting scholars from around the world.

The language of instruction is English.

The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow with research expertise in transnational migration. Of particular interest to the Department would be a candidate who is able to study transnational migration in its relation to urban spaces and to broader social, economic and political structures and processes. A candidate who studies migration in relation to citizenship would have a further advantage. The successful candidate will be asked to teach no more than three courses per academic year, at least one of which will be related to their research interests, and will be expected to conduct a systematic programme of research culminating in appropriate publications and in activities or events, such as workshops, of benefit to the Department.

The appointment is for two years and is not renewable.
