Dept. of thoughts, nestap, December 27, 2006 at 9:57:42 AM CET DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS Eine kleiner, aber sehr anschaulicher Kommentar zu westlicher Entwicklungshilfe wie ich finde. Uebernommen, so wie ich ihn von einer Freundin erhalten habe und da sie um Verbreitung bat, wollte ich dies nicht vorenthalten. Frohe Weihnachten allerseits... ...................................................................................... Okay, have YOU thought about the words to the above song? I have a question to ask....... why has no one challenged the lyrics to this song ? Or are we too afraid of being accused of having a chip on our shoulders? Still mentally enslaved? The catalystic impetus for this song was the famine in Ethopia - but suddenly becomes another word for Africa and famine becomes another word for "those poor starving people in Africa; and Africa becomes the name of a country, and a great continent) Yes, it achieved its purpose, again, 'Africa' was used in making money for many people but at the cost of making WHOLE of Africa appearing impotent? And how much do the africans actually get? As little is 1% of all proceeds. Please take time, if you can, to educate people about this song - ........The only sensible person was Bono from U2 (nuff respect) who was concerned about what he had to sing. (my comments are in brackets) LYRICS TO: DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS - BY Band Aid It's Christmas time there's no need to be afraid at Christmas time we let in light and we banish shade and in our world of plenty we can spread the smile of joy throw your arms around the world at Christmas time But say a prayer pray for the other ones at Christmas time it's hard, but when you're having fun there's a world outside your window and it's a world of dread and fear (CORRECTION, Africa is not always about dread and fear) where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears(CORRECTION, Africa is not a continent full of saddoes) and the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom (CORRECTION, clanging chimes of doom, what do they think of us? well tonight thank God it's them instead of you And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time (Snow in Africa? when? apart from mountain tops and there's always snow there) the greatest gift they'll get this year is life (NO, don't agree) where nothing ever grows (SORRY, where NOTHING, EVER grows? what rubbish) no rain or rivers flow (CORRECTION, this is obviously more twat) do they know it's Christmas time at all? (CORRECTION, not all Africa celebrate christmas) Here's to you, raise a glass for everyone (CORRECTION, Africans don't get into drunken stupor at Xmas) here's to them, underneath that burning sun do they know it's Christmas time at all? (YES WE KNOW CHRISTMAS! WE are not ignorant!) Feed the world, let them know its christmas time again (to fade) ... Comment
