Tired of "The Economist" After reading the economist issue of this week, I was quite shocked by how the editors play with popstar images and turn their arguments upside down in order to underline their neoliberal positions. John Lennon is portrayed as an advocate of free trade and Diego Armando Maradonna is denied his rights to take part in a demonstration against the Free Trade Area of the Americas since he “as a cocaine-addict was dependent on barrier-busting international trade”. In light of this, I conclude that poverty seems not only to exist on the edges of the neoliberal project, as The Economist wants us to believe, but rather right in its centre: In the magazines’ editorial office. http://www.economist.com/printedition/displaystory.cfm?Story_ID=5115177 ...
