Postcards from the End of the World Duncan Campbell, who administrates a website about british settlers in southern patagonia, started a new website: patfotos.org, featuring historic photographs from this area. From special interest for anthropologists are two pages with rare photographs from indians of tierra del fuego: First there is a collection of photographs made by the missionaries of the South American Mission Society. In this mission worked also the well known Thomas Bridges and his son Lucas Bridges. The other photos were a total novelty to me: Postcards from Selk'nam and Yamana indians. I knew that the indians were definitly a exotic attraction to travelers who frequented the street of magellan by steam boats. But that they even printed postcards spreading the idyllic notion of yamana children sitting in canoes with picturesque landscape in the background is a nice information. ... Link (0 comments) ...
