e2 -- Another Fake Company

Well, this is not really a new thing for our debate about the cortechs, but a nice example that also other companies give their fictional companies a place in the cyberspace, or let's say, they will. Take a look at the Union Aerospace Corporation. I guess it wouldn't be to hard to find out where it's from... or better, what potentially will be there in the future.

Technology Adaption in Weblogs

Jim Milne, Student at the Department of Anthropology from University of South Florida, last month wrote an paper about the The Technology Adoption Cycle in Weblogs [Word Doc]. He also made some kind of self-experience for his work by having his own weblog. Well, we may call that fieldwork.

What he want's to proove is the following: "The outcome of this study is a redefinition of technological innovation. The study shows that the tools and techniques that come to be known as a technology follow the creation and adoption of the practices they contain. If technology is not just artifacts and production processes, but also the contexts of the use of that object, and the practices engaged in by people using it, then the complex of emergent meanings that describe and explain it precede the technology itself. Paradoxically, the practices come to exist, and then the tools are developed to accomplish them. This redefinition of technological innovation is meant to refute the notion that technology ?causes? social change. More correctly, social practices change, and technology shifts accordingly."

For more information and a list of literature you may take a look at his First Draft Dissertation.

Another Anthropology Weblog

The Golublog is a personal weblog from Alex Golub, an anthropologist currently writing his dissertation about the Ipili speaking people of the Porgera valley in Enga Province, Papua New Guinea. He is particularly interested in their relationship with the large gold mine that shares the valley with them. He spent two years living there, from 1998 to 2001.His weblog, besides of the great picture left, which I heartly loughed at, is a fine example how a weblog can be used to store thoughts related to anthropology work and fieldwork, among other thoughts. People interested in Papua New Guinea can find related news and recent books by browsing his scientific categories and by taking a look at his Porgera Page.

Exploring Africa

Exploring Africa is an Exhibit of Maps and Travel Narratives. Unfortunately it's from 1997 and because of that the scanned pictures and maps are of very bad quality. Via Map Room
