Money Ends Indigenous Protest


Money seems to be stronger than religious beliefs and sacred land: In the conflict between a chilean energy company and some pehuenche indians (we reported) money did solve at least one conflict. Nicolasa Quintreman, one of the most prominent Pehuenche opponents of the project, surprisingly signed over her land to the electric energy firm, which is majority owned by Spain's Endesa. She will get $250,000 for her "ancestors land". Planet Ark reports.
