am Mittwoch beginnt das alljährliche Treffen der American Anthroplogical Assosiation (AAA), und dort wird - wie bereits erwähnt - das Projekt Open Acess Anthropology (OAA) angestossen.

Die Beteiligten haben einen Brief geschrieben, der bereits an die verschiedenen AAA Mitglieder geschickt wurde, um das Projekt bekannt zu machen. Nun wird darum gebeten, diesen Brief, der auch auf der Website veröffentlicht ist, zu unterschreiben. Alex Golub weist in der mailing liste ausdrücklich darauf hin (5.Eintrag), dass auch nicht-AAA-Members unterschreiben können und sollen. Ich bin mir momentan noch nicht ganz sicher, ob es auch Sinn hat, als undergraduate zu unterschreiben, werde aber morgen im Chat nochmal genauer nachfragen, im moment ist grad niemand mehr da, der mir da eine Auskunft geben könnte.

Es wäre sicher eine Hilfe, wenn sich der ein oder andere entschließen könnte, die Aktion zu unterschreiben! Ich denke, es ist eine gute Sache - die sind mir der Aktion auf dem richtigen, aber verdammt steinigen Weg!

1. we need a solid open access policy to make anthropological research widely available;
2. we need a more transparent financial arrangement between the association and its members;
3. we need a form of financial sustainability that does not compromise our ability to disseminate our research.

We invite the sections and their members to start thinking creatively about the solution to these problems. Digital publishing gives us the technology to make our work widely available, so let's use it! Our colleagues in the sciences and social sciences have already begun the experiment, and we should critically examine their successes and failures.

What is Open Access? Open Access is online, freely available, peer-reviewed research. It is licensed in such a way that it protects the rights of the author, but allows the work to circulate as freely as possible. It is fully compatible with peer-review and publication in scholarly journals, and there are increasingly a large number of fields whose most prestigious journals have adopted open access policies.
